Mission Statement:

To bring good people and good jobs together by assisting individuals who are unemployed or underemployed with meaningful work while providing employers with candidates prepared to work.

History:

Started in 1985 as a related ministry of Lynchburg Covenant Fellowship to help the community's unemployed and under-employed citizens, New Land Jobs, is now a program under Lynchburg Community Action Group. A 501(c)(3)private not for profit corporation, has been a member agency of the United Way of Central Virginia for twenty years. Sixty-five percent of our funding comes from individuals, area churches, the business community, foundations, grants and contracts.

Services Provided by New Land Jobs

 

  • Job Search Preparation Workshop

A small group process lasting approximately one and one-half hours.  Topics covered include:  exploring applicants job needs, a career vs. a job, understanding needs of the employer, where to find job leads and the job search process.

  • Assessment

To include CareerScopeŽ, a one hour self-directed interest/aptitude assessment followed by a one-to-one review with a counselor

  • Resume Preparation

A one-to-one meeting with the counselor which will result in a current professional one page resume

  • Interview Practice Workshop

A small group process lasting approximately one and one-half hours.  Topics include:  application tips, telephone usage, interviewing preparation and typical questions and interview role playing.

  • Job Coaching

Ongoing job search assistance to individuals to include supportive counseling, mentoring and resource identification.  Assistance is provided for as long as it takes to locate a satisfactory position.

  • Follow Up

Once the applicant is placed, New Land Jobs offers ongoing support and conducts periodic retention reviews.

  • Training and Enrichment Program

This program offers participants basic computer skills training and hands-on training in the use of routine office equipment, telephone etiquette and note taking; and basic computer classes in E-mail, Internet research, Excel, Access and Microsoft Word.

 

We use implement assessment and evaluation tools for program review to determine what changes or modifications should be made.
